Dr. Mark Bulmer is Research Associate Professor in Joint Centre for Earth Systems Technology, Research Assistant Professor in Department of Geography, an Adjunct Associate Professor of Geology, at University of Buffalo, SUNY and a Visiting Scientist at the Smithsonian Institute. He has 12 years of experience in volcanology and landslide research. His research interests are in the area of mass movement dynamics both on Earth and the terrestrial planets combining field measurements with remotely sensed data. He has led or participated in over 17 major field tests and campaigns. He is the author of 30 journal articles, 29 reports, 6 conference proceedings papers, 4 education videos on remote sensing for Middle School age, and numerous public presentations of his work. Dr. Bulmer obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography at University of London, King’s College in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Astronomy & Physics (Planetary Volcanology) at University College London in 1994. He has conducted research at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Goddard Space Flight Center, and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Dr. Bulmer serves of the American Geophysical Union Tellers Committee and the Landslide Working Group of the Committee for Earth Observing Satellites. He has received grants from NASA, ESA, CSA, ISA, NSF, National Geographic, Royal Geographical Society, Smithsonian Institution and Radarsat International. He has peer review roles at NASA and NSF. He has held memberships in four scientific societies.
