POSITION TITLE: Communications Specialist

PERSONNEL STATUS: Exempt, Full time, Regular

DEPARTMENT: Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology (GEST) Center
& Joint Center for Earth Systems Technology (JCET)

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Associate Director of Administration for Finance & Administration for GEST and JCET, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for the formal reports required for the Centers. This includes the Annual Reports for GEST & JCET, quarterly newsletters for each Center, and maintaining the JCET/GEST Faculty Handbook. The incumbent will provide technical editing services for faculty for proposals, peer-reviewed journal articles, and grant reports. Additional duties include ensuring the accuracy of information on the JCET & GEST websites and Blackboard, maintaining current email lists and organization chart. It is anticipated these duties will require 50-60% effort. Other duties include the review and reconciliation of the JCET/GEST operating budget, providing overall subcontract management at the Center level, and providing back-up support to the Center’s travel coordinator (40-50% effort). In addition, the incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Requires a Master’s Degree in Writing or related area and at least two years of relevant experience, preferably with a University System of Maryland or similar public institution(s). Must have: experience working with ESL writers and the ability to handle multiple, complex tasks and prioritize ongoing and new work assignments. Must be computer literate including the use of the Internet, E-mail, and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with layout software desirable. Experience with budget review and reconciliation, subcontract oversight, and travel reimbursement preferred. Strong verbal/written communication skills required.
