Four UMBC physics students representing NOAA’s Cooperative Remote Sensing Science and Technology Center (NOAA CREST) won prizes in NOAA’s Educational Partnership Program 7th Biennial Education and Science Forum held at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. Details are below:
1. John Sullivan (Graduate Student)
Presentation:“Characterizing the evolution and intrusion of ozone in the
troposphere using a transportable ozone lidar”
Award: First prize for an oral presentation by a graduate student in the
Weather Ready Nation section.
2. Brian Carroll (Graduate Student)
Presentation: “The Lidar Uncertainty Measurement Experiment (LUMEX) and Dual
Doppler Lidar”
Award: First prize for a poster presentation by a graduate student in the
Resilient Coastal Communities and Economies section.
3. Farrah Daham (Undergraduate Student)
Presentation: “Measurements of offshore wind resource over Maryland for
strategic planning and development of offshore wind energy projects”
Award: Second prize for a poster presentation by an undergraduate student in the Resilient Coastal Communities and Economies section.
4. Daniel Wesloh (Undergraduate Student)
Presentation titled “Comparison of RAP forecast wind data with lidar measurements
in the Maryland Wind Energy Area”
Award: Third prize for a poster presentation by a undergraduate student in the Weather Ready Nation section.
