Researchers, including Jay Herman of the Joint Center for Earth Systems Technology, presented the first scientific results from these images captured by
NASA’s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC), and discussed how
the instrument provides a new view from a million miles away of cloud
cover, dust transport, vegetation and more. The Earth-facing camera on NOAA’s new Deep Space Climate Observatory
(DSCOVR) takes daily images of the sunlit side of our planet from the
satellite’s unique vantage point between Earth and the sun. This press conference occurred at the American Geophysical Union's Fall meeting in December 2015.
